Toika Metal Stretchers
Toika stretchers (also known as temples) are made of steel and come in a range of sizes from 15 to 240 centimetres to suit virtually any weaving width you are working on and might need a stretcher for. Made from steel, with multiple adjustment points. They are very strong and the slim profile mans they only cover a small part of your warp. To aid identification they are colour coded by size using six bright colours in a set order. This means the the small version shares the same colour with the larger equivalent in the range. They help to keep the width of your weaving true from start to finish, keeping the draw in consistent and protect the outermost warp threads from damage. Whether or not to use of a stretcher is often down to personal preference but it is generally accepted that they are must when weaving rugs, linen and using singles yarn. Many weavers find them useful when weaving other types of cloth too. It's important to remember to move the stretcher regularly, at least every 5 cm or so and to keep it placed near the fell of the cloth. It should also be left in place when you leave your weaving and whilst winding on. If taken off you may find your cloth develops a U shape in the middle. As well as keeping the full range of stretcher sizes in stock we also have replacements if you have lost your pin covers or joining pieces. We also keep replacement pins in stock if you have worn yours out or want to make your own stretcher.
