At last the new website is live! We hope you like it. It has taken a long time and a huge amount of work, help and support from my brilliant web hosts Ince Web Services.
For the first post I would like to introduce you to the site and some of its features and also advise you of some important changes to our prices, payment gateway and postage methods.
I think you will agree that the new site looks very different to the old one, rest assured all of your old favourite products are there with a few new ones and some more newbies in the pipeline.
I am really pleased and excited to be able to offer you Laura's Loom Yarns. Laura sources her fleeces from farms in Cumbria, the Yorkshire Dales and Scotland, making her yarns not only 100% British but of 100% UK provenance. Not only are the sheep and alpacas British, living and growing their fibre in the UK; all of the processing is done here as well. Please take a look; because they are so special they have their own section in the web shop.
At the bottom of the Home Page you will see links to Terms and Conditions, Postage, How to Shop and News and Events. Please take a minute or two to read through these sections; lots of the information is the same as before but there are also some changes to the way we work and especially to important things like postage and payments that you need to be aware of.
There are price increases on some lines. The majority of our prices have not increased since we started trading over 4 years ago. Unfortunately the recent uncertainty in the markets and weakness of the pound is likely to impact further on prices, particularly on yarns sourced from the US. Hopefully thing will settle down quickly but in any event we will endeavour to continue to bring you the repeatable yarns you love at competitive prices, reasonable postage costs and most importantly offer friendly help, advice and excellent service which remains free of charge and without obligation to make a purchase!
We are now able to offer you the option of choosing your postage preferences as well as being able to offer a single price option for heavier deliveries to the UK mainland. Unfortunately we are unable to offer this service to some areas of the Highlands and Islands, who will continue to receive deliveries from Royal Mail or Parcel Force. Your postcode will determine what services are available and you will be given options to choose from at the check out. We will continue to apply reasonable postage charges and will always work to find the best value option for our customers. Because of this there have been some changes to the way we need to deal with sending parcels and we need to get packages ready by 2pm to get them on their way, this means that orders placed after 12 noon may not be despatched until the following working day.
We have changed the company who process your payments to us to Paymentsense and have decided to withdraw the option to pay by Paypal. I appreciate that this may be disappointing and annoying for some customers but in order to continue to be able to keep our prices competitive we needed to make this decision. Paymentsense offer exactly the same secure payment system you have been used to with Worldpay and I have to comply with the same strict security compliances, so the only change for the customer will be the name and processing email they send you. We still welcome payments by cheque and bank transfer, the details needed for bank transfers are at the checkout if you prefer this option. You can also ring to place and pay for an order by phone.
The website isn't currently set up for orders outside of the UK. This may become an option in time but if you want to order from Europe or other international destinations please get in touch by email. We will then send you an invoice with payment options. Unfortunately we are unable to send to the USA.
The 'How to Shop' section will give you an idea of how to navigate the new site but if you get stuck or can't find something please give me a ring or drop me an email.
The News and Events section will tell you where we are going and what we are doing. It will in time also have details of workshops on offer here in Leicestershire as well as other events of interest to textile enthusiasts. If you would like us to come to your Guild with a Pop Up Shop please get in touch. We are already taking bookings for 2017 so don't leave it too late. If your Guild has an event or workshop that you would like to publicise in the Events section of our web shop then please do get in touch with the details.
Over the coming months I plan to bring you some more new yarns, ideas for weaving, special offers and more. Please continue to send me pictures of your work for our new improved Gallery that will be accessible to all, as I know not everyone uses Facebook. Never underestimate how inspirational generously sharing your work with others can be, as well as giving me vicarious pleasure in seeing what you are weaving when I find so little time to get to the loom myself!
