  • COTTENHAM SUMMER SCHOOL 2017 CAMBRIDGE

I am very pleased to be able to share these details with you. Anna is a very experienced weaver and excellent teacher and this Summer School is always very popular. It is excellent value for money too, a perfect way to start learning to weave or extend your skills. Do get in touch with Anna for more information.

Anna Crutchley will be teaching her 5-day course ‘Weaving on a 4 shaft Table Loom’ again this year at Cottenham Summer School, Monday 24th – Friday 28th July, 10am – 4pm. The course is suitable for beginners or weavers with previous experience. Beginners will sample a variety of weave structures, experimenting with different colour combinations, yarn qualities and surface textures. Weavers with previous experience are encouraged to discuss their ideas with the tutor in advance. You will leave with a comprehensive set of samples, notes and masses of information for further progress.

Contact Anna directly if you would like more information about the course at info@annacrutchley.co.uk or 01223 327685, or Cottenham Village College at http://community.cvcweb.net or 01954 288752 or for info and booking for this or other courses.

  • DEVON WEAVERS WORKSHOP COURSES

I'm always pleased to be asked to share details of courses arranged by DWW. It's a lovely place to go and meet up with other weavers. It's a super place to go to learn something new, visitors are always made very welcome, I can thoroughly recommend it.

They are hosting a 3 day course on Scandinavian Weaves taught by Jette Vandermeiden. Jette is everything you could ask for in a teacher- extremely knowledgeable, calm, kind and very very patient. It will be a splendid course I only wish I could go but I'm already spoken for that weekend! Full details on the course and contact details for booking on the attached flyer which will download if you click on the link.

  • More beautiful weaving

Just a quick note today to let you know that I will be away next week in Devon catching up with friends and visiting the AGWSD National Exhibition at Killerton House Devon. http://www.wsd.org.uk/news.php?go=headlines&id=48

John will be in charge of the shop whilst I'm away. He will be at work so it won't always be possible respond to phone messages or to post orders until the following day, but he will get orders processed as quickly as possible. I expect to have email access where we are staying so will respond to messages as soon as I can.

Once again my talented customers are showing us their weaving.

silk shawl on loom IMG_1388 Silk shawl 1 Silk shawl 2 This stunning shawl was woven in our 20/2 silk by Jennifer and just goes to show what happens when you choose two colours that were made for each other and put them together with the right weave structure. Gorgeous, glowing iridescence!!

  • Devon Weavers Workshop Point Twill Repp

There may still be some spaces available on this course being hosted by DWW.

I have attended several courses hosted by the Workshop I can honestly say that they have always been of a very high standard and the members are a very friendly and helpful bunch. Having watched Rosalie's DVD on Double Weave I really wish I was going but unfortunately my diary is full that week worse luck!

Point twill rep - rep runners: A study in 4 block design using linked blocks and solid stripes. Using the same profile draft, weavers will thread an 8-shaft loom with 4 or 5 different colours, of 8/2 cotton to design a table runner. (The warping instructions and colour directions will be sent upon registration.) The runner will feature a series of 4-block motifs in the centre, with a border featuring 2- block motifs in opposite colours. The border will be separated from the centre designs by a solid coloured stripe of 2 colours. Weavers will use a series of Design Pages from 'An Exaltation of Blocks' designed by Rosalie Neilson. Believe it or not, there are 1,024 different 4-block designs. Weavers will receive enough designs in their handouts to whet their creative appetites!

Rosalie Neilson loves using colour and geometric design in her weaving, her specialty being rep weave. An avid designer and teacher, she was featured in the 2-hour DVD by Interweave Press called 'Rep Weave'. She publishes regularly in weaving and braiding journals and maintains an active teaching schedule throughout the United States and Canada. This will be the third time she has taught in England. Her mathematical interests led her to develop the 1,024 four block symmetric motifs, in addition to the 1,157 unique 2-color patterns for the kumihimo braid structure Kongo Gumi. She recently published her kumihimo designs in the book 'Kongo Gumi: A Cacophony of Spots - Coils - Zags - Lines'
